Send a Word document for signature with Pactlyra
There is no Microsoft Word add-in yet. This is the route that works today, step by step, and exactly what is missing.
Pactlyra does not have a Word add-in or a SharePoint or OneDrive connector today. What it does have is a signing workflow for PDFs, and a Word document becomes a PDF in one step. That is the whole route, and it works now.

How to send a Word document for signature
- In Word, save the document as a PDF: File, then Save As, and choose PDF as the file type.
- In Pactlyra, upload that PDF.
- Place the signature and other fields on the pages where you want them.
- Add the people who need to sign and send it. Signers do not need a Pactlyra account.
- When everyone has signed, you get the signed PDF with a certificate of completion.
What you get at the end
Every completed document has an audit trail and a certificate of completion, so there is a record of who signed what and when, kept apart from the Word file you started in. The free PDF signing page shows the same flow without sending anything.
What is not built yet
- No Word add-in or ribbon button. You leave Word to save the file as a PDF.
- No SharePoint, OneDrive or Teams connector, and no automatic save of the signed copy to
Microsoft 365. You download the signed PDF and file it yourself.
- No link between the Word file and the signed copy. If you change the document after
saving it as a PDF, save again and send the new PDF; the signed version is a PDF, not an editable Word file.
- Microsoft 365 is on the integration roadmap, where its status
is stated plainly. A connector is listed as available only once it is built and tested.
If you build your own tooling, the REST API accepts a PDF and can send it for signature without anyone using the screens.
Frequently asked questions
Does Pactlyra integrate with Microsoft Word?
Not as an add-in. There is no ribbon button and no SharePoint link today. You save the document as a PDF and upload it, which takes one step.
Can I sign a .docx file directly?
No. Pactlyra signs PDFs. Save the Word document as a PDF first, then upload it.
Do signers need a Microsoft account or a Pactlyra account?
No. Signers do not need a Pactlyra account, and a Microsoft account plays no part in signing.
Will the signed copy be saved to OneDrive or SharePoint?
Not automatically. You download the signed PDF and save it wherever you keep records.
Is there a free way to try this?
Yes. A new workspace gets a 7-day trial with no card at signup and up to five sends, so you can send a real document before choosing a paid plan.
