Recipient role
What a person on an envelope is being asked to do — sign it, approve it, or simply be sent the result.
A recipient role says what someone on an envelope is being asked to do.
A signer completes fields and signs. A approver reviews and approves or declines without necessarily signing anything. A copy recipient (cc) is sent the completed agreement and is not asked to act at all.
The cc distinction carries real consequences that are easy to get wrong. A copy recipient is copied, not asked: never invited to sign, never chased by a reminder, never warned that a link is about to expire, and never given a field. They receive the completed document like everybody who signed.
Getting this wrong produces a specific and embarrassing failure — chasing somebody for a signature on a document they were only ever meant to be shown.
