Identity verification for signers

Assurance is a property of a person, not of a document. The certificate says which.

"This document was signed with identity verification" is a claim about a document. It is not the claim anybody needs in a dispute. What matters is which *person* was verified, by what method, at what moment.

Pactlyra records assurance per recipient. An internal approver who only has to confirm a contract value may not need a passcode; the counterparty signing for a quarter of a million probably does. You choose per person, and the certificate of completion says what was true for each of them.

What is available today

• Basic — the signing link itself, which is a credential issued to one address and revoked when re-issued
• Enhanced — a one-time passcode sent to that recipient, required before they can act

Federated and higher assurance levels are named in the model and are not built. We would rather say that here than let you find out during a pilot.

A link is a key, and re-issuing it replaces it

Resending an invitation revokes the previous signing link rather than joining it. Two live links to one agreement is not a convenience — it is a second key nobody is tracking.

That is true in the database and not only in theory: a signer asking for a passcode used to write over a revocation that a resend had just committed, five times in eight when measured over real HTTP. Revocation is monotonic now. Nothing can raise a credential from the dead.

What a used link says

Somebody returning to their own already-used link is told what they did with it, not that the link is dead. It grants nothing — it cannot sign, and it cannot fetch. But a person who signed something and cannot tell whether it worked is a support ticket and a lost afternoon.

Where it is written down

The assurance level per recipient, the time they consented, the consent text they were shown, and the moment they completed all sit on the certificate and in the hash-chained event trail — verifiable offline, without us.
